When our four new Vault Hunters were introduced, FL4K instantly became a fan-favorite. It’s hard not to love a mysterious robot surrounded by animals at their beck and call. It also helped that people were already speculating that FL4K was Loader Bot in disguise, and though that turned out to be false, FL4K’s popularity stuck among the community.
I was fortunate enough to go hands-on with Borderlands 3 in late April at its gameplay reveal event, and at the time I could only play as either Amara or Zane. When I asked whether or not we’d get a sniper class similar to Zero, Mordecai, or Aurelia I was told that I’d need to wait and see. When I further inquired about FL4K specifically, a developer told me that Gearbox wasn’t quite ready to reveal anything about them just yet. Personally, I had a feeling that they’d be the sniper class, and my hunch proved correct.
I’ve never been a huge fan of the Siren class in any of the Borderlands games because I generally found their action skills underwhelming, so I knew Amara wouldn’t be for me. The soldier class, what Moze appears to be, never appealed to me either with Axton or Roland. Zane came close after my time playing him, but after seeing FL4K’s skill trees, it’s no contest now.
Aside from FL4K’s three pets; a Skag, Spiderant, and Jabber — which are cool on their own, I’m mostly interested in FL4K’s individual abilities in each skill tree. FL4K specializes in dealing a ton of critical hit damage and regenerating health. It’s essentially a combination of the best buffs you can get. The final ability in their Hunter skill tree even gives you a 20% chance to score a critical hit against any part of an enemy’s body. Combined with increased critical hit damage and another skill that constantly regenerates health, this makes them the perfect candidate for long-range snipers.
And how can I resist a character that lets you pet the dog? Just look at that cute face and don’t worry about killing its brethren.
